The baseplate mounts to the bottom of the metal bumper and to the lower sub-frame assemblies. The bumper molding and the headlights (on some older models) need to be removed. The plastic radiator shroud and the center plastic molding needs to be trimmed for installation. The attachment tabs will extend through the grill opening approximately four inches. All holes need to be drilled to install the baseplate. Fog lights will need to be permanently removed to install this baseplate.

1. Read the General Instruction Sheet included with this baseplate.

2. To remove the bumper molding the plastic rivets on the top center and along the bottom edge of the bumper molding. On the front edge of the fender wells are screws which need to be removed. Next pull the fender well molding back and reach up inside with a 10mm socket and long extension to loosen the bolts that fasten the bumper molding to each quarter panel. Then pull the bumper forward and down to remove. On older models remove the headlight assemblies, then pull off the bumper molding.

3. Remove the black plastic center piece which is bolted to the bottom of the aluminum bumper.

4. The plastic molding surrounding the radiator needs to be notched. Starting from where the plastic piece meets the bottom of the metal bumper, measure down 2 inches and mark it. Then measure back 2 1/2 inches and make another mark. Measure down 3 1/4 inches and make another mark and then back out to the front of the shroud. Make a line to each mark and cut out the small piece. Do not cut the molding completely out the back, as that will considerably weaken it.

5. Hold the baseplate up so the side plates are positioned on the outside of the frame (in front of the indents) and the front braces on the attachment tab assemblies align with the bottom of the metal bumper. Note: Some older models have quarter panel braces interfering with the side plates. Remove the bolts that fasten these braces to the frame and then position the baseplate it its correct position. Make sure the baseplate is positioned so the holes drilled in the metal bumper give you enough room to use the nut plates (Item 2). Once the baseplate (Item 1) is positioned correctly, clamp it to the frame and drill the 3/8" holes.

6. Use the hardware provided to bolt the baesplate (Item 1) to the frame and metal bumper. Use the two large nut plates (Item 2) with the front metal bumper attachment assemblies and the two small nut plates (Item 3) for the side holes. Note: On some models it will be necessary to use the 3/8" wire nuts (Item 7) in place of the 3/8" nut plates (Item 3). Use Loctite Blue or Red with each bolt to ensure that they do not loosen while the car is being towed. Once all bolts have been started, tighten and torque bolts according to the Bolt Torque Guidelines in the General Instruction Sheet. Replace the braces that were removed in Step 5 by using the self drilling screws (older model Saturns only).

7. Replace any of the lower plastic that was removed during the baesplate installation. On some of the older models it is necessary to cut an opening in the grill section for the attachment tabs. Place the bumper molding up to its original position and mark area needed to be cut. Once the molding is trimmed replace it to its original position.

8. Do not substitute any other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost.
