Towable Vehicles
To find out if your vehicle is towable, or to see a listing of towable vehicles, please go here. Keep in mind that the information displayed here was gathered from various resources. However, some of the towable cars listed here are not an official position from the manufacturer. Always check with the dealer before purchasing a vehicle to tow. Gather information on how the warranty of the vehicle will be affected if the vehicle is towed. Towing World is not responsible for any incorrect information. Specifications are subject to change without notice.
Four reasons we suggest certain cars should not be towed
  1. Cars which do not track properly.
    • SUBARU (85-90 2WD/4WD): This car will occasionally opposite lock when starting from a curb at low speed on a surface with poor traction. This has been verified by our own testing as well as discussions with SUBARU who has an extremely strong anti-towing posture. However, note that the SUBARU JUSTY tows very well.
    • CHEVROLET LUV 2WD PICK-UP : The LUV 2WD (not the 4WD)is the poorest tracking vehicle we have ever encountered. It should not be towed.
    • TOYOTA COROLLA FWD '84-'87 and CHEVROLET NOVA '86-'88 : These cars track poorly due to the very small caster angle choosen by the designer. This is the only TOYOTA with that problem.
  2. Cars with structural problems.
    • PRE-'85 ISUZU I-MARK : This car has an unusually light gauge front end. We attempted a design but had to give up finding a bolt-in arrangement which would pass our tests.
    • FORD MUSTANG II : Note this is the MUSTANG II, not the early or late models. We have no personal experience with this car, but we understand from another source that on at least one occasion, the front sub-frame of this car pulled away while being towed.
  3. Cars with accessibility problems
    • VW KARMEN GHIA; VW TYPE II FASTBACK and SQUAREBACK : These cars have a very deep sheet metal overhang at the front which is too light to serve as an attatchment point for a tow bar.
    • PLASTIC FOAM FRONT ENDS : Several cars, particularly sports models, present similar problems as noted on the VW's above.
